You can read the poem here: The Half Moon in the Sky
This is a children's poem that uses the moon symbolically.
The half-moon and its kind and tender light represents a peaceful influence that is available to us all - the poem is saying that not one of us needs to be petty, insensitive, cruel or inhumane.
The half-moon represents a higher value we can all be influenced by.
"Showing the night’s creatures their own stealthy trails." means that it reveals to the harmful actors of the world their true motives, their own stealthy trails. It brings truly harmful motives to light.
"The trucks will rumble, crickets will chirp, fireflies will gleam, But you’ll know none of this happened, because you will dream." This is peaceful, figurative language to describe war and our dreams of peace.
In any case, this half moon shines on all of us...the influence is there....the possibility is there....we do not have to be monsters to each other.
This is a peaceful, kind-hearted poem for our time of insane warfare and violence against innocent people.
Here is the text of the poem which was recently published on the excellent website Dirigible Balloon:
It shines down through your window, as the stars do their twinkling.
Through fleecy, pale clouds, this bowl quietly sails,
Showing the night’s creatures their own stealthy trails.
Beneath its kind and tender glow, your dreams will now unfold,
From the place within yourself where magic stories can be told.
The trucks will rumble, crickets will chirp, fireflies will gleam,
But you’ll know none of this happened, because you will dream.
May we all sleep snugly, may we all share this delight,
As the moon glides over all of us with its delicate light.
In the still of this night, let all worries take flight,
Because the half-moon in the sky brings peace with its light.
